Congratulations on your Pregnancy!

Your body will go through many changes as pregnancy has its way with you. But the biggest change will be the slow and beautiful transformation of your mental state of mind from a woman to a mother.

The only time you will feel blessed when someone kicks you is when your baby kicks inside your tummy during your pregnancy and also the only time in life when you’ll fall in love with someone you haven’t met YET!

Congratulations again and you’ll have your arms around your little one before you know it!

Tips to Know during Pregnancy:

1. Avoid Certain Exercises

Avoid certain exercises which could potentially reduce the oxygen supply to your baby. Scuba diving, mountain climbing, travelling to low altitude areas are all risky and are best avoided from now until after you deliver your baby.

2. Be Careful What You Eat

Become familiar with foods which could cause you or your baby to become sick. Listeria is a food-borne illness that is very risky to pregnant women and their babies. Foods you need to avoid eating include undercooked eggs and meat, raw seafood and sushi, ready-made salads and cold meats. Raw meat is also dangerous and you’ll need to be very careful. Just remember, everything in moderation!

3. Write a Letter

Think about writing a letter to your baby. Although this may sound silly, it is something you’ll both look back on in the years to come. This is an exciting time and although it seems like it will last forever, you will be surprised by how quickly it goes.

4. Be Careful what you Use to Look Good during Pregnancy

Still look good during your pregnancy. Look at the labels – acne cream and anti-wrinkle products are important in any beauty regime. However, do take note as many of these products may contain potentially harmful chemicals like acutane and salicylic acid. Natural oils containing Vitamin E and Omega 3, 6, and 9 are practically unsurpassed in helping the skin to maintain its elasticity, which can prevent stretch marks and wrinkles, without any of the potentially dangerous side effects. Also, it is very common for pregnancy mummies to develop dark spots on their skin (thanks to hormonal changes!) Unfortunately, direct exposure to sunlight can trigger it, or exacerbate existing spots. If you have to be in the sun, be sure to wear a large brim hat, and be generous with your SPF cream.

5. Know your Maternity Leave Policy

Know your company’s maternity leave policy and pregnancy coverage beforehand. Reassure that you’ll be on top of things while you are pregnant until you leave. Are you covered for any unexpected events? Any baby bonus or incentive from your company? How long do you need to help train whoever taking over your responsibilities?
